Clearing Negative Emotions
Clearing Negative Emotions…..the understanding of holding on and the power of letting go…..Would you like to be “at cause” for your world?
All emotions in some way tend to relate to our reaction to love and power. In saying that I have found, through numerous coaching and training clients, that when these negative emotions are released the ability for the client to now be “at cause” and take their power back is profound. I have found that anger, or frustration, for example can be expressed because the client may feel a lack of power in convincing someone else to do what we want them to do or they may relate the anger to a lack of love from a person and so they did not feel treated as they were expecting to be treated.
The contribution of Time Line Therapy™, the work of Dr Tad James and Wyatt Woodsmall, as well as Yung, Huna, Quabala and working with hundreds of clients and seminar participants, teaches us that we tend to store our emotions in a Gestalt like pattern (as seen below). Gestalts can be both horizontal and vertical in nature and some people’s emotions are stored in a grid.
How cool is that to find that we are so organized that we can go back to a time, a person or an event in our subconscious mind and “have a chat” or “gather great resources and learnings” that may allow us to let go of that decision we made to hold on to that limiting belief or negative emotion.
The purpose of some of our primary emotions is to trigger particular responses that help us survive when faced with danger. There are three basic survival emotions of anger, fear and sadness.
While we may use anger to help defend ourselves and fear to help us run away from something, we tend to use sadness to withdraw or escape until the perceived danger has gone. So while we have used these emotions historically for a positive purpose, they may also create an inappropriate response in today’s society where our survival is not always at stake.
Let me give you an example. When I was in Africa, I always walked ahead of the truck and met the village people. One day a guy was in the bush and as I walked past on my own, he decided to show me all of him by opening up his coat. He then started to come toward me and I ran so fast I felt that I was no longer in charge of my legs. The fear assisted me to run away to safety. Some 30 years later here in Sydney I am asked to speak in front of a professional group with the trainer in the room. The same level of fear consumed my body and I found myself leaving the room to get myself together. This fear almost prevented me from delivering my knowledge to these people. How many of you have had similar circumstances? In that instance the fear was an inappropriate response where survival was not at stake. I have since had this fear emotion released and public speaking has gone from being a fear to my profession…..interesting eh!!!!
While I have just mentioned three emotions here, there are many emotions that we may hold onto that no longer serve us. In fact there are six major categories of emotions with at least 10 emotions in the hierarchy underneath them. So what do we do about them? How do we actually release an emotion we no longer want?
